What is a Jewelry Appraisal?
A jewelry appraisal is a value assigned to your jewelry as of a specific date. The type of value is defined in the scope of work at your initial consultation. Please bring any documentation, including prior appraisals, original receipts and lab reports to your appointment.
Do not confuse jewelry appraisals with selling your jewelry. If you are interested in selling please visit our gold buying page. Or for large collections, check out our pre-appraisal services below.
Appraisals
Our appraisal service is a valuable resource for a variety of purposes, including insurance, bankruptcy, separation/divorce and estates. If you need an appraisal for a legal manner, ask your attorney what they require before making an appointment.
When opting for an appraisal, you will need to leave your item(s) with us for evaluation. Our team will thoroughly examine your item(s) for any damage and provide recommendations for necessary repairs, ensuring the optimal condition of your jewelry. We will then enter a detailed description, including identifying marks, weights, and measurements, into our computer system. You will receive a receipt with this information, along with a photograph of your item(s). Rest assured that all items are fully insured and securely stored in our safe during the appraisal process. Our standard turnaround time for appraisals is one week.
The pricing for our appraisal service includes a quick cleaning and a comprehensive written document featuring three photographs and a raised seal. Please note that full restoration cleaning, polishing, refinishing, or rhodium plating can be provided for an additional fee.
Pricing: start at $180 per item
We highly recommend scheduling an appointment to meet with our appraiser, as this allows us to determine the appropriate valuation method tailored to your specific situation. Additionally, during the appointment, we will perform a quick cleaning and thorough inspection of your items to identify any necessary repairs. It’s important to note that our appraisal includes a section on the condition of your item, which covers aspects such as loose stones, chipped or broken stones, worn prongs, cracks, thin shanks, and other relevant details. If any of these issues are found, we must notate them on the appraisal. It’s advisable to address these concerns before the appraisal if you plan to apply for jewelry insurance, as the insurance company may decline your application based on the condition of the item. We can provide you with an estimate for the necessary repairs and complete them before the appraisal, ensuring a seamless process. By doing so, our goldsmith can perform the necessary repairs and Brittany can appraise your item(s) all within the one-week timeframe. Our ultimate goal is to provide you with accurate and detailed written appraisals that meet your specific needs and requirements. Free consultation includes sorting of up to 5 items. If you have a larger collection please book a pre-appraisal assessment below.
Pre-Appraisal Assessment
Our experienced appraiser, Brittany, conducts pre-appraisal assessments to assist with sorting through estates and collections of more than five pieces. Brittany skillfully separates real jewelry from costume jewelry, identifies metal types and purity, separates diamonds from imitations and shows you identifying characteristics, and engravings.
Beyond identification and sorting, Brittany’s expertise encompasses a range of valuable services. She offers complimentary cleaning and inspections for your items, ensuring they are in their best condition. Furthermore, Brittany provides expert guidance on which items are worth keeping or passing down, suggests creative re-design options to breathe new life into your jewelry, identifies necessary repairs, and determines items that are beyond repair. In addition, she can provide itemized trade-in values, allowing you to make informed decisions about whether to keep, trade, repair, or re-design your pieces.
Our assessment service offers valuable assistance in sorting, identifying, and evaluating your items. However, please note that it does not include additional services such as differentiating between natural and lab-grown diamonds, calculating diamond carat weight, grading diamonds for color, clarity, and cut, identifying gemstones, calculating insurance replacement value, determining fair market value, or producing a written document. These services are available through our written appraisal service, described above. If you desire these comprehensive services, Brittany can recommend items that would benefit from a written appraisal and provide an estimate of the associated fees.
Our goal is to provide you with a comprehensive and efficient experience, encompassing appraisals, cleaning, inspections, repairs, and the exploration of potential selling or trading opportunities, all within a single appointment. The pricing for our verbal appraisal service is structured as follows: a flat fee of $100 for up to 30 minutes of sorting, identifying, and appraising an unlimited number of items. After the initial hour, subsequent pricing is based on increments of $50 for every 15 minutes. To ensure prompt and efficient service, we kindly request that you schedule an appointment with Brittany in advance using the link below.

Pearls
Differentiating natural pearls from cultured pearls requires advanced lab testing, including the use of X-ray technology. Thus, we do not offer pearl appraising services unless you have previous documentation (receipt, appraisal or lab report.) It’s important to note that pearls are highly sensitive to personal factors such as sweat, acidic skin, perfume, and cosmetics, which can gradually deteriorate the layers of nacre and diminish their value. Due to these reasons, there is limited demand in the secondary market for used pearls, thus our buying event does not purchase pearls.
